This process of journaling has deeply influenced my approach to art-making. I find beauty in usually overlooked everyday moments because I become present where I am when I journal.

I love that!

When I had no studio, I decided to create a portable setup to tuck into my bag. It became a habit, and I still carry it wherever I go. Therefore, I learned to take notes around the drawings and deepen my creative thinking skills while integrating the everyday of life.

about beth

Decades ago, when I began to keep a journal, I realized the beauty I see every day was an invaluable resource for my artwork. I needed a place to incubate ideas while caring for my little ones and teaching art to elementary school children.

Those drawings and personal observations in my journals grew into a resource for images and ideas. But, I never knew the value of what I was creating until about six years ago when I had to move them from their stacked shelves. And... realized I had 140 journals!

To share the unexpected insights into my heart, mind, body, and soul from the contemplative habit of journaling, I have gathered my techniques for quickly working while trusting my marks and words.

Now I feel it is essential to share them with you, to be the artist of your own life, in whatever medium you feel drawn to.
